|The Mad Hatter|
|Real Name||Jervis Tetch|
|Base Of Operations||Gotham City|
|Hair||Grey (Formerly Red)|
Jervis Tetch was a skilled neurological researcher who became delusional, eventually believing that he was the Mad Hatter from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. He abandoned his career and began feeding his obsession with hats, using his hypnosis abilities and mind-control devices to steal. Batman stopped Tetch and put him in Arkham Asylum, where he remained for several years.
Tetch occasionally acted again but his mental illness varied wildly. Usually he was a more pleasant natured criminal, content to release a horde of white mice or try to kidnap the President for a tea party. Other times his illness took on more sinister tones. His crimes still involved scenes from Alice and his headwear obsession in these phases, but the end result was far from harmless to those nnocent bystanders who happened to find themselves caught in Tetch’s delusional versions of Lewis Carroll’s books.
Release In 2035Edit
In 2035 he was released on parole but was shortly thereafter reincarcerated. His business, Jabberwocky Milliners, was held at gunpoint by a former victim of the Mad Hatter who sought revenge. While Jervis escaped unharm, investigations revealed he had been hiring ex-cons like himself - an action he meant positively to give them a break, but which put him in violation of parole.
Following a public campaign, Jervis has been moved from Blackgate Penitentiary to a lower security prison. He is seeing Kathryn Kenson, a widow whom he met through a pen-friend program in the prison but has blossomed into romance.
Jervis was always very short and has only shrunk in old age. His ginger hair is withered to grey and his skin is marked with wrinkles. He still wears a formal suit and top hat wherever possible.
Jervis Tetch was once a prominent neurosurgeon and he has created several ways to control others’ minds. The most prominent of these was a headband in his top hat, with which he can control nearby people. He is an accomplished hypnotist and often creates gadgets that help him manipulate others, usually by secreting implements within people's hats.
